Hollywood star Thandie Newton and author Georgia Foster give their tips on how to socialise in style this Christmas…

Women these days are growing more aware of the amount of alcohol they drink with as many as 73% of women who drink, aged between 25-34, now drinking less than the recommended weekly allowance having realised the affect it can have both in terms of long term health and their looks.

The new study released as part of the Martini ‘The Beautiful Drink’ campaign suggests an emerging trend amongst women who enjoy a drink but want to be able to maintain their style & sophistication throughout the evening.

This noticeable shift in attitude to drinking has been linked to women’s desire to maintain their looks and their admittance that they’re ‘always conscious’ of their behaviour and appearance on a night out.

In this video, author of ‘The Drink Less Mind’ Georgia Foster and acclaimed actress Thandie Newton discuss this shift in attitude towards using alcohol as an expression of celebration not escapism and give advice on how to embrace the party season with confidence.

Sūtra Lingua: Translating Stars’ Inspired Words
Posted by Jennifer
November 21st, 2009 at 11:42 pm

The Sūtra scarves are gorgeous, no matter what their woven message. Knowing their story, however, will make choosing your match just a little bit easier.

It would be easy to assume that words like Love, Peace or Trust would rank at the top of the list of lines that were provided for the scarves by superstars from David Bowie to Scarlett Johansson. So it’s a treat to get some unpredictable thought provocation in the form of Dust (yes, Dust) and Funk (yes, Funk). From a stable of artists known for their bold choices, their strong voices and their truly unique senses of style, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that they’re keeping us on our lingual toes.

Citta founder and spearhead of the Sūtra scarf project, Michael Daube talks about the stars he knows — and the words they chose.

He says, “To me, all of these artists are people who are very grounded, very successful and have a very powerful and passionate way of putting words into the world.”

Thandie Newton: Surrender

“When it went to be translated by the Sanskrit scholar, it meant, ‘when you take on a new understanding that absorbs your entire being.’”

Actress Thandie Newton has revealed that she shares strong bond with men because she does not flirt with them.

The 37-year-old ‘Crash’ star, married to writer Ol Parker, said she keeps her distance from manipulating her sexuality.

“I’ve never dated an actor, just had the odd fling. Isn’t that weird?” Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

“I don’t flirt with people – a long time ago, I stopped using my sexuality to have a relationship with people.

“I don’t really think you get a sense of me, sexually, and that’s why I have really great relationships with straight men,” she added.

Thandie Newton fell in love with hubby at first sight

Actress Thandie Newton has revealed that she had to dump her ex-boyfriend because she fell in love with her future husband Ol Parker.

The ‘RocknRolla’ star said that she was head over heels in love with Parker when she met him in 1997.

“He wrote a screenplay called In Your Dreams that I filmed in 1997. It’s very unusual to have writers around on set because directors don’t want them there. But they love having Ol around. He was on set every day and I fell madly in love with him…” the Daily Express quoted her as telling Britain’s InStyle magazine.

She added: “I’d never experienced that before. Up until then, my relationships had always been more based on people wanting to be with me. When I met Ol, I was dating a really sweet, lovely man and I had to leave him straight away, even though I wasn’t even going out with Ol!

“But as soon as I met Ol, it kind of cut off any other blood vessels to anywhere else. We got married about two years later; we’ve just had our 11th wedding anniversary.”

The pair has two daughters- Ripley and Nico- together.
