Empire has debuted the international trailer for the Carl Tibbets-directed thriller “The Retreat”. Cillian Murphy and Thandie Newton play a married couple who rent a cottage on a remote island to fix their marriage. Their plans are cut short when a soldier (Jamie Bell) wearing a biohazard suit washes up on the beach claiming that everyone on the mainland has been killed by a virus.

LOUIS VUITTON has chosen British actress Thandie Newton as the star of the latest chapter in its Double Exposure film series.

The project, which debuted with artist Sam Taylor Wood earlier this year, creates two “portraits” of the sitter: one a literal portrait, using a 19th Century photographic technique called the collodion wet plate process; and the other a portrait of the subject’s inner self, in a film where the sitter reveals their most treasured possessions and the story behind them.

“The images really take you into the heart of history itself,” Newton said. “To parallel that, we’re getting into the history of me through the items I’ve chosen. One of the things about these photographs is the layers of meaning. Each picture is so unique so it just creates this desire to be my most essential self.”

Newton’s chosen items include a touching object created by her eldest daughter Ripley, a painting from her childhood which symbolises iconic memories from her youth, and her passport – a vital component to her life and career.

Vertigo Films are set to release Retreat, the latest film from Batman Begins actor Cillian Murphy in October. The film, whose UK quad poster (pictured above) we’ve just been sent, sees Murphy star alongside fellow Brits Thandie Newton and former Billy Elliot Jaime Bell in a film that sees:

Kate and Martin escape from personal tragedy to an Island Retreat. Cut off from the outside world, their attempts to recover are shattered when a man is washed ashore, with news of an airborne killer disease that is sweeping through Europe.

Vertigo Films release Retreat across the UK on October 14th.

Thandie Newton is the latest star to step back from Hollywood and prepare for a stage debut. The British actress will be heading home to London to take part in a West End production of the political thriller Death and the Maiden. The show is a revival of the 1990 play penned by Chilean playwright Ariel Dorfman.

Newton will star as Paulina, a former political prisoner in an unnamed Latin American country who was raped by captors led by a sadistic doctor whose face she never saw. The play will be directed by Jeremy Herrin and will begin previews at the Comedy Theater on Oct. 13.

Newton was most recently seen in Huge alongside Noel Clarke and Johnny Harris, as well as Vanishing on 7th Street, co-starring Hayden Christensen and John Leguizamo. She is currently filming Good Deeds, the upcoming film from Tyler Perry.
